Rotary Club to Make Donation to Glencoe
The Radford Noon Rotary Club will donate $1000 to the Glencoe Museum and Gallery on Monday, August 14th.
“We are happy to give back to Glencoe and see these funds go to good use in our community,” stated Jim Mitchell, Radford Noon Rotary Club President.
The funds came from the Field of Honor Flag sponsorships purchased by local businesses and community members this past spring totaling just over $5000. The flags were displayed at Glencoe Museum from Memorial Day through Independence Day of this year.
The Radford Noon Rotary Club will be presenting the donation to Glencoe Museum during the next Radford City Town Council Meeting. The club also intends to donate $500 to Radford VFW Post 776, and $136 to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. The remaining funds will be applied to the Radford Noon Rotary Club’s RU Scholarship Fund.
The idea for the Field of Honor came from Radford Noon Rotary Treasurer, Tom Alston who stated, “My wife and I are both veterans and when I learned about the project with over 1000 flags in Forest, VA, and a similar one in Winchester, I thought ‘We need to do this.’ So, I spoke with Frank (Herzog) to make it happen.”
Frank Herzog, who was President of the Radford Noon Rotary Club during the launch of the project added “The Field of Honor was a big success for Glencoe and Rotary. We are all very excited for next year.”
The club intends to continue to partner with Glencoe Museum and display the Field of Honor each year.
