Rimmer, Rae Jean

Rimmer, Rae Jean 2Rae Jean Rimmer, age 85, of Blacksburg, VA passed away with her family lovingly by her side on August 10, 2026.

She is survived by Hugh Rimmer (husband), Robert (son), Melanie (daughter) and Clint, Nicola (daughter) and Brian, Philippa (daughter) and Peter, and grandchildren Emma, Walker, David, Wilson and Ryleigh.

Rae Jean was born in Mt Ida, WI and grew up in Norfolk, NE. After becoming a registered nurse, she moved to New York City on a fellowship for advanced training, where she met and married Hugh. After a few years, they moved to New Zealand and she grew to love the country and Hugh’s extended family on both islands. After several years, they moved to Zambia for work and then later relocated to Milwaukee. Their final move was to Blacksburg where they built great friendships in the community over the past 36 years.

Rae Jean loved traveling the world with Hugh and their children, playing cards with friends, and crafting. Her hand-spun yarn was stunning, and she used it well in her weaving and knitting. Over the decades her exquisite linen towels and colorful scarves, hats, and jackets made their way into the collections of hundreds of people.

The family would like to thank Rae Jean’s friends throughout the community for their love and companionship, as well as everyone at Warm Hearth Village for their care and support.

In lieu of a formal service, close friends and family will be invited to a celebration of Rae Jean’s life at a date to be determined in the near future.
