Ray, Judith Ellen

Judith (Judy) Ellen Ray, 77, of Narrows, VA, went to her heavenly home, July 16th, 2024. Judy was born on August 21, 1946, in Narrows, where she lived on Main St for all of her life.

Judy, more commonly known as Ms. Ray, was a teacher at Narrows High School for 33 years. She was the kind of teacher who deeply cared for her students and their individual success. It was abundantly obvious that she had a huge love of US History, World History, and Geography, thus instilling that same love and knowledge into her students. After the school day ended, she switched into the role of volleyball coach and cheerleading sponsor. Being a teacher and coach was Ms. Ray’s niche and what provided her with satisfaction in life. Judy’s love for her country, God and her family were the most important things in her life. Her love and faith in the Lord were paramount in her life she was devoted to her God and her church family at Faith Temple Church. Judy truly embodied the term of a godly woman, educator, and friend to everyone she encountered.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Vernon and Maxine Ray, of Narrows and her brother, Jerry Richard Ray Sr, of Richmond.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Jennifer Ray, of Narrows, her niece Kellie Price (Justin) of Pearisburg, nephew Steven Hutchison (Maria) of Pearisburg. Her sister-in-law, Patricia Ray, nephews Jerry Ray Jr. (Paula) and Chris Ray, of Richmond, Va. Rhonda Tickle (Gary) and children, who joined the Ray family in her teenage years. Finally, her great nieces, Mckenna Hutchison and Brooklyn and Kayleigh Price.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 2pm at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel in Narrows with Pastor Debbie Hutton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before the service, from 1 – 2 pm. There will be a private interment after the funeral service at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.
