Radford photo club March winner
One photographer wins two categories
Charles Lynch of Christiansburg won both the photo challenge and the open category at the Radford Photo Club March meeting.
He won the Food Challenge with a photo of bottles of hot sauce taken at a Radford grill. “I liked the colors and the arrangement of the bottles with a beer bar background giving it a familiar sense of place,” Lynch said.
He won the open category with a photo of a mountain valley landscape taken in West Virginia. “The wood grain of the farmhouse suggested black and white conversion; and it was a keeper,” he explained. “It is just a beautiful scene, which requires no justification at all.”
The March meeting began a new offering. At each meeting, one or two members will make brief presentations about famous photographers plus a photo in similar style of their own. In March, Michele Borgarelli of Blacksburg presented the works of Luigi Ghirri. Also at the meeting, works from the February meeting’s four stations – the library, a tiny diorama, a fancy cake, and a floral still life – were presented.
In April, the photo challenge is photography in the dark, using artificial light. There will also be walks to photograph early flowers during April, which will be publicized on the Radford Photo Club’s Facebook page.
The Radford Photo Club, which meets at the Radford Public Library, is made up of professional and amateur photographers from throughout the New River Valley. Meetings, events, and outings are open to the public. If you have questions about the club, email Lucy Gilmore at lucyg.gilmore@gmail.com or Michele Borgarelli at mborgarelli@gmail.com
