Parcell, Roy Woodson
Roy Woodson Parcell, 90 of Narrows, VA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Roy was born on December 18, 1933, in Pearisburg, VA and was a son of the late Everett Calvin Parcell and Sarah Pauline Parcell. Besides his parents, he was preceded by death by 3 brothers, Calvin “Bud” Parcell, Everett Vance Parcell, Thomas L. “Ted” Parcell and 1 sister, Betty Jean Parcell.
Roy was a 1952 graduate of Narrows High School Greenwave. He joined the U.S. Air Force in December 1952 and was assigned to the 1607th USAF Hospital (MATS) and was discharged in 1956. After the service, he returned to live with his family in Bland Co. where he returned to his former job at the Celanese Corp in Narrows, retiring after 44 years of service. While he was at Celanese, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley. They built their home in Narrows where they raised their family. He and Shirley are long time members of the First Baptist Church in Narrows, having served in several positions. Roy was an avid and “serious” golfer. He loved watching many sports on TV, including college football, baseball and NASCAR. His favorite role was being “Bo” to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley June Wheeler Parcell of Narrows, 2 daughters, DeNenne P. Brigle (Kevin) of Richmond, Leslie P. Hill (Mike) of Riner, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Gomes (Matt) of Richmond, Nathaniel Brigle (Lily) of Reston, Emily Hill of Christiansburg, Kari Hill of Riner and 1 sister, Pat Blankenship of Rich Creek.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 2, 2024, at 2pm at the First Baptist Church of Narrows with Pastor Jerry Sawyers officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour before the service from 1 – 2pm.
