Orey, Donald Ray

Donald (“DR”) Ray Orey, 78, of Dublin, VA, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024 at his home. He was born September 28, 1945 in Bland, VA, the son of the late John & Flossie Orey.

DR worked for many years as a lineman, in strip mining and in road construction. He was not one to be idle. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed yardwork, was a past hunter and was an avid bass fisherman.

He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan and enjoyed attending their sports games, rarely missing one. He attended basketball, baseball, football and track, no matter the weather.

DR was preceded in death by his parents, John Schuler & Flossie Mae Patton Orey, his brothers, Bob Orey, Jim Orey, Dave Orey and Junior Orey and his sisters, Marie Albert, Frances Monk, Judy Buchanan, Hazel Perdue and Sandra White.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Brenda Chambers Orey; his sons & daughter-in-law, Ray & Melanie Orey and Philip Orey; his grandchildren, Carrie & Case Keatley, Hunter & Courtney Orey, Nathan Orey and Ethan Orey; his sister, Betty Harden and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of DR’s life will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Pastor Mac Miller and Charles Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M, until service time, 1:00 P.M.
