Mills, Freeda Wood
Freeda Mae Wood Mills, 87, of Pilot, departed this life and stepped through the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born on November 17, 1938, to the late Clarence and Bessie Wood, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bill Mills; her two sons, Jeffrey and Timothy; sister, Norma Pratt; and many other beloved relatives.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Mills, and Neva Sales, who was like a daughter to her. Also surviving are her sister, Sue Wood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas ‘C.T.’ (Grace) Wood, Michael (Sharon) Wood; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Willie Mae (Luther) Spencer, Trudie Worrell, Shirley (Butch) Yates; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Freeda loved her family, loved her friends, and loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a longtime active member of Abundant Life Fellowship, where she played the piano, sang in the choir, was the church treasurer, and taught Sunday School for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ray McDaniel and Rev. Carl Early officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
