Meadows, Sr., John Wayne

John Wayne Meadows Sr. 81, of Henderson, NC, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025, at Maria Parham Health. Born in Giles County, VA, he was the son of the late Earl Hampton Meadows and Bernice Pauline Humphreys Meadows. He was the widower of Charotte Hansbarger Meadows.

Affectionately known as “Pops” to all that knew him, proudly served in the National Guard and worked at Leggett Department Store for thirty years. John was a longtime member of First Baptist Chruch of Altavista, where he was a former Deacon.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Dave Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek, VA.

Survivors include three sons, John Wayne Meadows Jr (Karmen), Todd Hampton Meadows (Nikki) and Brandon Matthew Meadows (Emily); one daughter, Crystal Meadows Burgess (Troy); eight grandchildren, Kelly Dixon (Jason), Jimmy Ramsey (AmyJo), Katie Meadows, Shae Meadows, Paige Meadows, Zoey Meadows, Gunner Burgess and Reese Meadows; six great grandchildren; one brother, Danny Meadows (Sandra); and other extended family members. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Earlene Meadows.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Peterstown, WV, one hour prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. At other times they will receive friends at the home in Henderson, NC, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
