McGrail, Emily Smith
Emily Smith McGrail, 48, of Radford, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, March 20, 2026. She was a member of Snowville Baptist Church and worked for Pulaski County Public Schools as an elementary classroom teacher.
After retiring, Emily served on the board, and was the state coordinator for a non-profit program known as Ms. Wheelchair Virginia, Inc. Emily was a loving girlfriend, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and an animal advocate.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Justin Smith; father, Harry L. Smith, Jr.; special father, Chipper Phillips; grandparents, Cecil and Janet Shelton; grandparents, Kirby and Edna Phillips; uncles, Clint Shelton and Gary Phillips; and grandparents, Harry Lee Smith, Sr. and Blanche Smith.
Survivors include her significant other Ken Richardson of Radford; sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and Adam Hill of Richmond; nephews, Jackson, Isaac and Foster Hill; sister-in-law, Holly Smith; niece, Olivia Grace Smith; nephew, Gavin McCoy Smith; mother, Patricia Shelton Phillips; godmother, Belva Dalton; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 4pm until 6pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. A celebration of her life will begin at 6 pm with Rev. Neil Wood officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Emily has requested that donations be made to the Ms. Wheelchair Virginia, Inc. program or to a local animal shelter/advocacy group.
