Link, Doris Lucas
Doris Lucas Link of Newport, Virginia passed into the arms of the Lord on the evening of May 1, 2026, when her loving heart stilled. She was born on September 20, 1938 in Pearisburg, Virginia to Dewey S and Marjorie P Lucas.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 70 years, James David Link, who she dearly loved; their children, Valerie Jones (Alvin) of Newport, Sylvia Duckett (Wayne) of Shawsville, Johnny Link (Bonnie) of Blacksburg, and Timothy Link of Annapolis, Maryland; her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Adam Jones and his children Devin, Audrey, Nate, and Mason of Fredericksburg, David Duckett and his wife Zeynep of Christiansburg, Emily Duckett and her husband, Ignacio Aguirre and their children, Aiden and Alaina of Beckley, West Virginia; her brother, Donald Lucas (Martha), and sister, Linda Jones (Mike); her sisters-in-law, Beulah Epling, Jean Porterfield, and Eleanor Link; and a special cousin, Joyce Stiff. She will likewise be missed by her many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors on the mountain, and the Loosely Woven Quilters.
As a founding member of the First Christian Church of Newport, she served her savior and the community of Newport. She lived her belief, always willing to lend a helping hand, a compassionate ear, and a warm hug. She delighted in God’s creation, watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds; the meteor showers; and the changing seasons. She loved growing her garden, sparing and preserving its plenty. She stitched fine quits, sang beautiful songs, and made a welcoming home. Her joyous spirit and smile touched everyone she met.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM in Kendall Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Henderson officiating. She will be laid to rest on her beloved mountain in view of her porch, where she and her husband enjoyed many happy days and evenings in the company of friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her honor and memory to Newport Rescue Squad. “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.” (Proverbs 31:28-31)
