LDS Church Donates to Feeding SWVA

LDS Church Donates to Feeding SWVA 2The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Feeding Southwest Virginia are joining forces to help families in need in Southwest
Virginia. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is proud to announce its commitment to providing a semi-trailer truckload of protein every month for the rest of 2023 to Feeding Southwest Virginia. This marks the first time in the food bank’s 42-year history that such a donation will take place.

The need for food assistance has become increasingly urgent, especially in light of the ending of emergency allotments through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in February. This change will result in an approximate loss of about $95 per family, according to The Department of Social Services.

This reauthorization of the Farm Bill in 2023 will have a major impact on families, including college students, single parents on low incomes, seniors on fixed incomes and many others. These families rely on SNAP benefits to put food on the table and make ends meet, and the loss of emergency allotments will only add to their struggles.

“At Feeding Southwest Virginia, we are committed to providing nourishing food to those in need in our community,” said Pamela Irvine, CEO of Feeding Southwest Virginia. “We are grateful for the partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their generous donation, which will make a significant difference in the lives of those who are struggling to make ends meet.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Feeding Southwest Virginia are committed to making a positive impact on the community and helping families in need. This semi-trailer truckload donation of protein will be a critical lifeline for families struggling with the loss of SNAP benefits, and a testament to the power of community partnerships in times of need.

“We are honored to partner with Feeding Southwest Virginia to support families in need,” said Hani Shabana, President of the Roanoke Stake of The Church Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, “This donation will help bridge the gap created by the ending of emergency allotments and provide much-needed protein to families in Southwest Virginia.”
