Katz, Mary Bertone

Mary Josephine Bertone Katz, aged 82, passed away on July 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She departed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

Born on October 23, 1942, Mary J. Katz touched the lives of those around her with her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Despite facing the challenges of her illness, she remained a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Mary embodied kindness and compassion. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of friends and family alike. Her legacy of love will be cherished by all who had the privilege of sharing in her journey.

Mary is survived by a loving family, including husband Al Katz of 68 years, son Kenneth R. Katz & Donna Katz, daughter Lisa K. Martin & David Martin and son Frank J Katz. Known affectionately as “Oma,” she is also survived by her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Karen Braiman (Alain Braiman), Danielle Collins (Christopher Collins), Heather Ferrara (David Ferrara), Michele Eppling (Andrew Eppling), Kaitlyn Gueta (Alex Gueta) and Matthew Martin. She adored her great-grandchildren, Brantley, Vanessa, Daisy, Elizabeth, Banks and Isabelle, who brought immense joy to her life.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, and her strength will continue to inspire generations to come.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, VA from 3 – 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in care of Justice and Peace committee Pearisburg in Mary J Katz’s honor.
