Jones, Betty HumphreysBetty Lou Jones, age 97, passed away Sunday June 23, 2024, at her home in Peterstown. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Betty Lou was born December 2, 1926, in Ballard, a twin daughter of the late Etta Mae Humphreys and William Homer Lawrence.

Betty Lou was the matriarch of a large family and was the glue that held her family together, allowing her home to be open to all celebrations and occasions. She had an open door for all who entered and welcomed everyone.

Betty Lou was active in her community routinely working voter polls, volunteering in the Peterstown schools and band, volunteering for Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and supported the Peterstown Volunteer Fire Department as a member of the Fire Aids. She was a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church. Betty Lou was a homemaker her entire life, raising 9 children and a friend to everyone in her community.

She was blessed with seventeen grandchildren: Shane Jones, Chris Jones, Leah Jones, Greg Jones, Stephane Johnston, Caroline Jones, Preston Jones, Kari Bohrnstedt, Mikel Kersey, Brooke Kersey, Christa Noble, Susan Perkins, Ann-McKenzie Baker, Andrew Evans and Ben Evans, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Thomas Jones; infant daughter Sandra Sue; two children Michael Jones and Sherry Baker; her twin sister Betty Sue Broyles; brothers Joe Lawrence, Alfred Lawrence, Darius Lawrence, Calvin Lawrence and sister Pauline Lawrence; two grandchildren Whitney Jones and Zach Jones.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Marshall Jones (Pat); Larry Jones (Connie); Jane Kersey (Bill); Tommie Noble (Tony); Rick Jones (Sharon); Tim Jones; Melissa Evans (Tony).

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV. Ricky Green and members of the family will be offering the eulogy. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until time of the services. Burial will follow immediately in the Peterstown Cemetery.

Her grandson and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers along with family friend Kevin Wolfe.
