Jackson, Harold Kester

Jackson, Harold Kester 2Harold Kester Jackson, age 90, passed away on October 14, 2025, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Harold was born on October 10, 1935, in Rock Camp, WV, to the late John William and Vada Burton Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Carl and Harry Jackson, and sister Mary Ruth Weikle.

From an early age, Harold learned the value of hard work while logging alongside his father. He later served his country proudly in the United States Army and remained a proud Veteran throughout his life. After the Army, Harold worked in highway construction before returning to the logging industry, where he built a lifelong career. When he retired from cutting and hauling timber, he continued to serve the local community through a small logging supply store in Monroe County, supporting fellow loggers and friends from the surrounding area.

Though he often kept his emotions quiet, Harold deeply loved his family. He took great pride in his children and could often be found sharing stories about them with anyone who would listen. His greatest joy came with his grandchildren — and later, his great-grandchildren — whom he adored beyond measure.

If you ever spent time with Harold, chances are you heard one of his Army stories.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Shirley; sons, Frankie Jackson (Sharon), Jimmy Jackson (Cheryl), and Jerry Jackson (Cindy); and daughter, Teresa Pike (Derrick). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Cody Jackson (Kandis), Christopher Jackson, Tyler Jackson (Lindsay), Cierra Parker (Cody), Jonathon Taylor, Micah Pike, Dara Rathbone (Chase), and Courtney Dunbar (Tyler); and great-grandchildren, Coy, Kap, Kip, and Kye Jackson; Blayke, Karter, and Dax Jackson; Camreigh, Chayleigh, and Colt Parker; and Briar Dunbar.

Harold’s hardworking spirit, love for storytelling, and devotion to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
