Hendrickson, Charlotte Cumbee
Charlotte Mae Cumbee Hendrickson, formerly of Pembroke, VA, passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2024, at the age of 88. A lifelong resident of Virginia, she was born in Maybrook on May 26th, 1935, and spent her final moments surrounded by her loving family in the care of Carilion Giles Community Hospital.
Charlotte’s life was one marked by unwavering devotion to her family and her faith. She was a cherished mother to her sons, Timothy Dowdy and Danny Dowdy, and her daughter, Debra Lynch. Charlotte embraced her role as a grandmother with joy and pride, leaving behind a legacy through her grandchildren, Tiffany Malik, Christopher Dowdy, Zachary Dowdy, Amanda Masseau, Emily Dowdy, and Hannah Dowdy, as well as through her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was the beloved sister to Ronnie Cumbee, with his wife Claudine, and Geneva Robinette, with her husband Cecil. Charlotte was a beacon of strength and love for her family, and her presence will be profoundly missed. Her life was preceded by the loss of her dear parents, Orbie Cumbee and Pauline Atkins, her beloved daughter, Linda Jorae, son-in-law, Denny Lynch, and her siblings, Joann Harless, Barbara Langford, Patty Sessor, Donnie Cumbee, Betty Dowdy, and Judy Hoffman.
Charlotte’s love for her family was paralleled only by her deep faith. She was a devoted member of Faith at Riverview Baptist Church, where she found great solace and fellowship. Her faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout her life, and it guided her in all her endeavors.
Anyone who knew Charlotte knew of her passion for gardening. Her hands, always tender with her plants, brought forth a bounty of flowers and vegetables that not only nourished the body but also the soul. Additionally, Charlotte found joy in maintaining her home, ensuring it was a welcoming and clean environment for all who entered. Charlotte’s love for Boston Terrier Bulldogs was well-known, and her affection for her feathered friends filled her heart.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Funeral services will conclude on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Virginia where she will be laid to rest.
