Hazelwood, Carl EugeneCarl Eugene Hazelwood, 93, of Rich Creek, VA, departed this life on Thursday, July 18, 2024. He was born December 12, 1930, in Elgood, WV, to the late Carson and Myrtle Gunter Hazelwood.

Carl entered into service with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean War. After honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, he worked at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, and earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Delaware State University. In approximately 1960 he settled in Northfield, NJ where he resided with his former wife, the late Geneva Hazelwood, and raised 6 children, while employed at the Federal Aviation Administration Tech Center as an Electrical Engineer, which he retired from in September of 1982 after over 33 years of dedicated service. Carl returned to the area where he grew up, living in both Peterstown, WV, and Rich Creek, VA, until his passing, where he married his 3rd wife, Charlotte Conley Hazelwood, with whom he resided for about 25 years.

Carl was an avid bluegrass musician, performed with many groups throughout his life, most recently with the circle gatherings at the MacArthur Inn in Narrows, VA. He was skilled with and enjoyed playing the banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass, and anything else he laid his hands on. He also enjoyed woodworking, and tinkering with electronics and other things that sparked his interest. He had a keen interest in family history and genealogy, that he spent much time researching.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Illa, Iris, Carson, Charlie, Dana, Phillip, and Gaylon Hazelwood, Ronnie Sisk and Wilma Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Hazelwood of Pittsburgh, PA; his children David Hazelwood and wife Beth Ann of New York, Lyn Denise Hazelwood and husband Carl Clouting, Kimberly Gregg, Kevin Hazelwood, Timothy Hazelwood, all of New Jersey, and Kristie Robinson and husband Steve of Georgia; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremy, Anna, Brian, Erin, Alex, Thomas, Josh and Alicia; and great grandchildren, Jamie, Hayley, Kallen and Ellie; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Burial will follow at Elgood Cemetery in Elgood, WV. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Heritage Hall Resident Aid Fund (120 Old Virginia Ave., Rich Creek, VA 24147).
