Griffith to Lead Hearing on Maui Fires

Thursday, September 14, 2023 – Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Chair of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, is announcing that he will be holding a hearing on September 28, 2023, on the recent deadly fires in Maui, Hawaii.

“It is imperative that we understand all of the facts surrounding the devastating events that took place in Maui this past August and what role, if any, electric infrastructure played,” said Griffith. “I look forward to hearing from our witnesses and hopefully understanding more about what led to these deadly fires.”

The following individuals are expected to testify: Ms. Shelee Kimura, President & CEO, Hawaiian Electric; Mr. Leodoloff R. Asuncion, Jr., Chairman, Hawaii Public Utilities Commission; Mr. Mark B. Glick, Chief Energy Officer, Hawai’i State Energy Office.
