Griffith Statement on Spanberger Gun Grab
In a 6-3 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major victory for gun rights. A Hawaii state law originally put unconstitutional restrictions on concealed carry gun owners. This ruling comes as Virginia begins to enforce a new state law effective July 1, 2026, which makes it a crime for any person to import, sell, manufacture, purchase or transfer an “assault firearm.”
In response to the SCOTUS ruling and Governor Abigail Spanberger’s gun grab, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Second Amendment rights are fundamental to rural communities in Virginia’s Ninth District and throughout the country. What this ruling from today means is that States which disrespect our fundamental Second Amendment rights risk having their unconstitutional laws struck down by our country’s highest Court.
“Governor Spanberger is on notice. Her illegal gun grab faces legitimate challenges in the courts.
“While I bought my AR before the July 1 ban goes into effect, I believe Spanberger’s unconstitutional action will be overturned.”
BACKGROUND
Congressman Griffith is a co-sponsor of H.R. 645, the National Constitutional Carry Act. The bill allows lawful U.S. gun owners to carry a firearm in any U.S. community, regardless of local or State law.

That title isn’t going to work on people who can read the laws. Nobody is grabbing your gun.
The lawsuits for this have been filed but we can’t stop the handouts to data centers from taxpayers, no relief for taxpayers from the electric company and gas companies to stop price gouging. Gas is still not $1.98 in district 9.
Congress didn’t approve the war which cost billions and 14 American lives. Now the US is going to give Iran over $300 billion to rebuild and “feed their people.” The clerics do not care about any of that and will be steady rebuilding for the next attack.
No lawsuit to stop grocery stores from price gouging. No lawsuit to stop the apartment rental industry from charging application fees and exorbitant rent. No lawsuits to stop people to have to give up their health insurance because they can’t afford the health plans.
Here’s the list of what the gun law does contain. Notice the last item states, you will keep the guns you have.

Semi-auto centerfire rifles with one listed rifle feature (pistol grip, thumbhole or folding stock, second handgrip, grenade launcher, or threaded barrel capable of accepting a muzzle brake, muzzle compensator, sound suppressor, or flash suppressor) are banned. Pistols require two listed pistol features; semi-auto shotguns have their own one-feature test.
