Giles County Broadband Project Reaches 84% Completion 2

On August 28th, project partners and community leaders gathered in Giles County to celebrate the progress being made through the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) 2024 Giles County Broadband Project.

The event brought together U.S. Senator Mark Warner, Congressman Morgan Griffith, the Virginia Department of Community Development’s Director Dr. Tamarah Holmes, and several leaders from throughout the region to showcase the project’s success and highlight the importance of continued broadband investment in rural communities.

The gathering provided an opportunity to recognize the collaborative effort behind the project and the real difference reliable broadband is making for residents and businesses across Giles County.

The project, a partnership between the New River Valley Regional Commission, Giles County, Pembroke Telephone Cooperative (PemTel), the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (USDA-RUS), is now 84% compete, with 525 passings of the anticipated 600 completed to date.

This project will provide service to the unserved and underserved households and businesses in the White Gate, Staffordsville, Wilburn Valley, and Broad Hollow communities.

The event served as an important reminder that expanding broadband in rural Virginia takes strong partnerships and a shared commitment to bringing opportunity and connectivity to every community. This project is more than miles of fiber—it is an investment in the people, businesses, and future of Giles County.
