Giacobello, Bartolo Joseph

Bartolo Joseph “Joe” Giacobello, 86, of Floyd VA passed away at home on Monday, June 29, 2026. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe Giacobello and Giovanina DeMatia, who came to New York City from southern Italy. Joe was born in New York, grew up in Paramus NJ and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in chemistry in 1962.

Joe retired in 1999 as a Senior Scientist from National Starch and Chemical Corporation in Bridgewater NJ after more than 30 years of service. After retirement, Joe relocated to Floyd.

Joe was an avid ham radio enthusiast. He was devoted to the many dogs and cats who shared his home. Joe loved following sports, especially his Jets and VA Tech Hokies. Joe loved to travel which led to friendships around the world and subsequent visits to his many friends in Italy, Australia and China among many other countries. He was an Italian chef extraordinaire for the many guests he hosted over the years.

Joe is survived by his partner, Anne Wilmot, also of Floyd, and daughter Kathi Kinloch of Pompano Beach FL.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
