Gardner, Linda
Linda Gayle Gardner passed peacefully from this world on 09/09/2024 at the age of 84. Born on 06/26/1940, the first child of Irvin Gardner and Wenona Kathleen Surratt, she grew up in a loving home, shared with her sister, Judith Kay and brothers, Arvin Wayne, and David Lynton Gardner.
She was an amazing mother of five children to which she dedicated much of her life raising. She was active in the community as a Girl Scout leader, member of the Radford Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary and Edgemont Christian Church in Christiansburg. Once her children left home, she returned to school at 50 years of age to become a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse. Linda was always caring for others as she set the example of service to all those that knew her.
After she retired, she helped care for her mother and grandchildren. The last few years of her life, Linda spent valiantly fighting liver disease and Parkinson’s Disease.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, Irvin and her mother, Wenona. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Wayne and sister, Judy (Wayne Loveday) leaving just her youngest brother David (Judy) in her generation. She also endured the loss of her oldest daughter, Karen Hudgins Clower, and her youngest daughter, Rebecca Leedy (Lee) Miles.
Linda is survived by her sons George Davis and wife Judy, and Michael Davis and wife Lydia, and daughter Amanda and husband, London Turner. Also left to carry out her legacy are fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Per her wishes, the family will hold a private graveside service and memorial dinner to allow them to share memories and stories of their loved one. While no formal public service is being held, the family encourages anyone who wishes to honor Linda’s memory to donate to Good Samaritan, the American Liver Foundation or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
The family wants to recognize the people of Good Samaritan Hospice for their wonderful care and support. We would also like to thank a special grandson, Tracy Hudgins and Cat who helped care for Linda in the final months of her life. She loved you both and was comforted by your loving care.
