Ford, Esther Spangler 4Esther Mae Ford, 85, of Narrows, VA, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Lindside Health Care Center in Lindside, WV. Born May 24, 1938, in Wikel, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clyde T. Spangler and Mary Riner Spangler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost forty years, James E. Ford in 1994; four sisters, Mary Ellen Spangler, Cora Ann Spangler, Alice Crawford, and Margaret Morris; son-in-law, Danny Sparks; and special friend, James Cockerham.

Esther loved the Lord and her family. She attended First Baptist Church in Narrows, VA. She had worked in the Twisting Department at Celanese. She was always sweet and kind and had many friends. She loved going on the annual girls trip to Pigeon Forge, TN. She enjoyed making people laugh and dressing up in silly outfits with hats and wigs. One of her great joys was making cookies with her grandchildren. Christmas was a very special time for Esther and everyone looked forward to her pumpkin rolls.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Sparks of Narrows, VA, Mary Jane Cooper and husband Winston of Narrows, VA, and Bonnie Dalton of Narrows, VA; two brothers, John Spangler of Lindside, WV, and Phillip “P.T.” Spangler of Bluefield, WV; five grandchildren, Josh Sparks and Hannah, Eric Dalton, Andy Sparks and Adrian, Melanie Martin, and Derrick Cooper and Brittany; and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Gary Hazelwood officiating. Burial will follow at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
