Nancy Louise Bowles Falls, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and strength, formerly of Pembroke, Virginia passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at her home and under the loving care of Country View Assisted Living in Peterstown, West Virginia.
Born on January 11, 1932, in Pearisburg, Virginia, to John Marshall Bowles, Sr., and Eva Meredith Bowles, Nancy’s life was one filled with devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Nancy’s was born in Pearisburg, Virginia and spent most of her life in Pembroke, Virginia which laid the foundation for a life of caring and connection. She met and married the love of her life, Norman “Bullet” Falls, and together they raised two sons, Randy Falls of Ripplemead, Virginia, and Larry Falls of Pembroke, Virginia. Her legacy continued to blossom with five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her heart.
Nancy’s family circle extended to her siblings, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. She is survived by her brothers, Robert “Bob” Bowles (Sharon) of Pembroke, Virginia, and Terry Bowles of Floyd, Virginia, as well as her sisters, Jean Caldwell and Margaret Higginbotham, both of Pembroke, Virginia. These relationships were a source of strength and comfort throughout her life. Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bullet, her parents, and several siblings: brothers John, Armon, William, and Wayne Bowles; and sisters Josephine Beswick, Ellen Bowles Snidow, Janet Robertson, and Phyllis Niday.
A faithful member of the Pembroke First United Methodist Church, Nancy’s commitment to her faith was evident in her 35 years of dedicated Sunday School teaching. Her guidance and wise counsel shaped the lives of countless young members of her church and surrounding community, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Nancy’s talents extended beyond her spiritual teachings. She was a gifted seamstress, known for her exquisite handcrafted dresses, dolls, quilts, and many other things which she crafted with love and precision. Her home was a testament to her skills, with each stitch telling a story of care and attention to detail.
Her passion for the Atlanta Braves was more than a pastime; it was a vibrant part of her identity. Nancy proudly displayed her team spirit whether watching alone or with family sharing enthusiasm for America’s favorite pastime. This enthusiasm was only matched when she would watch Virginia Tech Football, cheering for the Hokies to win each game.
In addition to her artistic and sports-related pursuits, Nancy was an exceptional cook. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she conjured up delectable meals for family and friends. The aroma of her cooking was a warm embrace, welcoming all who entered her home.
Nancy’s life was a tapestry woven with love, service, and the joy of simple pleasures. Her presence was a source of stability and warmth, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted to celebrate the life Nancy gave on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. In lieu of flowers, it was Nancy’s request that memorial contributions be made in her honor to the Pembroke First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
