The Staff of The Women’s Resource Center join with volunteers from the Blacksburg Newcomers Club after a successful Tomato Sale to benefit WRCNRV.
The Blacksburg Newcomers Club (BBNC) sponsored a Tomato Plant Sale during the month of April and raised $850.00 to benefit The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley (WRCNRV). BBNC partners with local charities each month to find ways to make an impact in the community.

BBNC grew multiple kinds of tomato plants for sale to benefit WRCNRV.
Kristin Knight, BBNC Communications Director, created and managed the Tomato Plant Sale and said “The sale was a huge success! We sold over 200 tomato plants to Newcomers and members of the New River and Roanoke Valleys. People were excited to donate to The Women’s Resource Center and often donated more than the asking price for the tomato plants. This type of generosity makes me proud to be a part of this community and a member of BBNC!”

The mission of the WRCNRV is to implement individual and social change for a violence-free community in the New River Valley region of Virginia. The WRCNRV works toward this mission by providing free programs and services to adults and children who have experienced sexual and/or domestic violence, and by providing education, training, and prevention programming to the public and to allied professionals.

Kristin Knight and Susie Arrington from Blacksburg Newcomers Club present WRCNRV Director, Laura Beth Weaver, with $850.00 from the BBNC Tomato Sale.
Laura Beth Weaver, Director of The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley said “It is refreshing to see such a creative fundraiser on the heels of the pandemic. The tomato plants will feed families this summer and the funds raised from their sale will support safety centered services for other families. Kristin’s thoughtfulness and the support of the whole Blacksburg Newcomers Club is a reminder that while there is great need for our services, there is also great support. In addition to the Tomato Plant Sale, the BBNC collected much needed supplies and funds for our shelter programs. Our work cannot happen in a silo and we are grateful to the many partners working with us toward a collective vision of a community free of sexual and domestic violence.”
