Domestic Incident Results in Police Shooting
On the evening of Saturday, August 7th at approximately 10:57 pm, members of the Christiansburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 500 block of Gold Drive in the Town of Christiansburg.
Preliminary information indicates that upon arrival officers found a male subject holding a female subject at knife point. Officers attempted to negotiate with the male subject but he was non-compliant and began to cut the female. At that point one shot was fired, striking the male subject.
The male subject was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained from the shooting. The female was transported to Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the knife attack.
The Virginia State Police were contacted to conduct the criminal investigation into both the domestic incident and the law enforcement use of force. That investigation remains ongoing. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Virginia State Police.
