Colley, Elster Lee
Elster Lee Colley of Narrows, Virginia, a devoted family man and self-employed crane operator, passed away peacefully at his home in Narrows, Virginia, on May 30, 2026. Born on January 3, 1933, in Dickenson County, Virginia, Elster lived a life marked by dedication to his work, love for his family, and a deep appreciation for his roots and traditions.
Elster’s early years in Dickenson County instilled in him a strong connection to his heritage, which he honored throughout his life by frequently returning to the homeplace where his story began. He cherished spending time with family and found great joy in attending bluegrass festivals, where he celebrated the rich musical culture of his region.
His career as a self-employed crane operator reflected his commitment and hard work, attributes that earned him respect and admiration in his community. Beyond his professional achievements, Elster’s greatest pride and joy were his family and the moments they shared together.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carl Colley and Melster Mae Presley Colley; his cherished wife, Iva Lee Cawley Colley; his daughter, Carlene Sue Colley; his son, Lee Roy Colley; and his siblings Selma Owens, Robert Carl “Peach” Colley, Jim Colley, and John Colley.
Elster is lovingly remembered and survived by his daughter, Linda Shorter (James), who stood by his side with unwavering love. He was a proud grandfather to Misty Colley, Michelle Colley, Melissa Cleveland Colley, Britni Caudle (Brandon Salmons), Lee Garrett Caudle, and Stacey Meredith Carter, each carrying forward his legacy with honor. His spirit lives on in his great-grandchildren, Anna Leigh Caudle (Garrett Blankenship) and Lexi Ann Smith, and in his great-great granddaughter, Indigo Blankenship, whose lives he touched deeply.
A graveside service to honor Elster’s life will take place on June 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM, in Sunrise Memorial Gardens on Woodland Road in Rich Creek, VA with Pastor Earl Riggs officiating.
