Byerly, Neta Linkous
Neta Linkous Byerly, age 69, of Floyd, Virginia, passed away on, November 21 2025, after suffering an unexpected heart attack. Neta will always be remembered as a loving wife of 44 years, mother, and grandmother.
The family’s beautiful farm on Sowers Rd. is evidence of her passions. She and her husband have meticulously cared for their property and home where Neta loved to restore furniture, decorate the house, create beautiful flower beds, and even weed eat. Neta’s house always smelled of homemade cookies, cakes, and bread which she made from scratch. Neta graduated from Auburn High School in 1974 and retired from Virginia Tech as a Business Manager for the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry in 2011 where she was intentional about incorporating family into work. Her business travel took her to many beautiful places, and she loved being able to enjoy them with her family.
Neta is preceded by her father Edgar Jr. Linkous, and sister, Lesia L. Pristas. She is survived by her husband, Steve Byerly; mother Lucell Linkous; son, Jon Byerly and wife Caroline Byerly; and 5 grandchildren Kaylen, London, Hallie, Caitlynn, and Easton. Two sisters and their husbands, Dinah and Jim Akers, and Kathy and David Mitchem and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Floyd County dispatcher, lifesaving crew, and sheriff’s deputies who responded on Monday, November 17, as well as those at Roanoke Memorial Hospital who provided great care and support.
There will be small service for immediate family at Mt Elbert UMC, Sunday November 23. A Celebration of Life service will be planned at a later date.
