Brumfield, Ronald Lee

Brumfield, Ronald Lee 4Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Brumfield, 75 of Pembroke, VA. departed this life August 20, 2023, at Giles Memorial Hospital. Born in Giles County, Virginia on May 21, 1948, he was the son of the late Lorenzo, Sr., and Martha P. Brumfield.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 55 years, Violet, his son Bendy Brumfield and wife Dana of Pembroke, and three grandsons which he was so proud of and adored: Bailey Brumfield, Xavier Brumfield, and Payten Brumfield. As well as a host of friends that have become his brothers and family in the community.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother Lorinza Brumfield Jr.; and his dear daughter Nicole L. Brumfield.

Ronnie was a small business owner of Brumfield Upholstery located in Pembroke; he ran his shop along with his mother from 1969-1979. He was employed at Virginia Tech for 21 years and has worked for the Town of Pembroke since June 2, 1987. He also was an Amateur Radio Operator which he worked hard to achieve and enjoyed doing.

He became a Master Mason, April 14, 1978 in the Castle Rock 334 Lodge; he also held memberships at Giles 106 and Eggleston 309. Ronnie was Worshipful Master of Castle Rock in 1995, 1996, and 2010. He was Worshipful Master of Giles in 2014 and District Deputy Grand Master of the 41st District in 2009.

He is a Lifetime Member of the Pembroke Fire Department which he began working with in the 60’s; he continued to serve until days before he passed.

Despite his challenges with his vision, he was a well know coach of a multitude of young men and women whether it was basketball or football. His philosophy encompassed giving a hundred percent win or lose. He always said, “If they lose, it was not a loss if they have given their best and if they win then they have put the effort out to get it”.

He was an avid Spartan fan and could be found by the practice field pre-season or in the stands at the top right at the 50-yard line cheering the Giles Spartans on; win or lose. He was proud of missing only three games in 40 years. No doubt he will be cheering on the Spartans from the golden stands in heaven every Friday night of the season.

He worked every day to show that a disability was not a disability but a different ability; though he had to do things differently at times that did not affect the effort he put into everything he done. Ronnie leaves a legacy of love, friendship, and mentorship and will be missed by not only his family but a community of those he touched and loved.
