Akers, Nancy Barker

Nancy Barker Akers, 88 of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Monday August 28, 2023. Nancy was a very talented seamstress, cook, and writer. She wrote many of the Christmas plays for Faith Baptist and also had a story published. She loved the Lord, taught Sunday School for many years, and enjoyed accompanying Paulette to her Gospel singing performances.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emmett Akers; parents, Fredrick Ernest and Leathie Barker; brother, Edmond Barker; sister, Jennie Barker; sister-in-law, Kathleen Barker; nephew, Lawrence Hall; and great-nephew, Anthony Vaughan.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Paulette Akers Nunley and her husband Elwood; special fur grandbaby, Cheeto; niece, Leathie Hall; nephew, Edmond Barker and his wife Donna; special great-nieces, Erica Meredith and her husband Jason, Michelle Barker, Kimberly Barker; great-nephew, Thomas Barker and his wife Wendy; special great-great-nephews, Conner Meredith and Sebastian Barker.

The family wants to express special thanks to the many friends, neighbors and family who have been a source of help and comfort since May. This time would have been unbearable without you.

Visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2023, from 12-1 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home with Funeral Services to begin at 1 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Nancy’s honor to the Montgomery County Humane Society or to St. Jude’s.
