Griffith on Dominion Energy’s Request

Griffith on Dominion Energy's Request 2Congressman Morgan Griffith (VA-09) issued the following statement after Dominion Energy asked the State Corporation Commission to recover the costs of
Virginia’s return to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) from its customers:

“Richmond Democrats promised Virginians lower costs. Instead, they slipped RGGI back into the state budget, and now the bill is about to come due. Dominion’s own filing shows the typical household will pay as much as $150 a year more, beginning next spring. That is a tax on keeping the lights on, and it falls hardest on working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small businesses already squeezed by inflation.

“Dominion customers are only the start. Appalachian Power, Old Dominion Power (different from Dominion), and our electric cooperatives must buy these credits too, and Southwest Virginia families will feel the pain. I call on the General Assembly to get Virginia out of RGGI and stop forcing families to pay a hidden tax in order to fund Richmond Democrat’s climate agenda through their family’s utility bills.”
