Mountain View Humane Announces $45,000 Grant

A generous grant from Alley Cat Rescue is helping Mountain View Humane make a difference for community cats throughout Southwest Virginia.

Earlier this year, Alley Cat Rescue awarded Mountain View Humane $45,000 to provide spay/neuter services for feral and community cats. Thanks to that funding, Mountain View Humane has already been able to help 820 feral/community cats receive spay or neuter surgeries, helping prevent unwanted litters and improving the health and welfare of free-roaming cats.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective way to manage community cat populations. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies, ear-tipped for identification, and returned to their outdoor homes. By preventing reproduction, TNR helps stabilize community cat populations while reducing the number of kittens entering shelters and rescues.

“We are incredibly grateful to Alley Cat Rescue for making this work possible,” said Laurie Gibbons, Executive Director of Mission Delivery at Mountain View Humane. “Spaying and neutering community cats is one of the most effective ways we can address pet overpopulation at its source. This grant allows us to reach cats who might otherwise never receive access to these important veterinary services.”

And there is still time to make an even bigger impact. Mountain View Humane will be holding two upcoming community cat surgery days on September 21 and September 28, with space for 50 feral cats on each date. As long as grant funding remains available, all fees associated with the covered feral cat services will be paid through the Alley Cat Rescue grant.
