Root, Norma Kaufman

Norma Jean Root of Radford, VA was escorted to Heaven by the Lord’s Angels on August 31, 2026, while resting peacefully at home with family at her side. Norma was 94.

Born Norma Jean Kaufman of Kalamazoo, MI, “Gammin” was Jerry Root’s devoted wife and a nurturing mother to Karin, Jesse, Kristine, Russell, and Michael. She was a cherished grandmother to 11 and great-grandmother to 13. After receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, Norma was proud to continue her civil service career at Fort Ord Army Base and Travis Air Force Base, both in California. She and Jerry later enjoyed a successful career as a dynamic property management team. Guests and residents absolutely loved her; she compelled people to smile with her warm, caring personality.

Norma will be remembered not only for her service to others, but for the love she shared so freely with her family and community. Heeding the Lord’s call, she leaves behind a legacy of faith, grace, and enduring devotion. To God be the glory. A private family service will be held in the future.
