Fox, Bobby Jack
Bobby Jack Fox, 89, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on August 4, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family and Sally, the very special lady who shared his life.
Jack was born in August 1936, in Johnson City to Hubert Clinton and Leota (Whittimore) Fox. After high school, he served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in South
Korea near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Following his honorable discharge, Jack began a long and successful career in finance.
Never one to sit around, Jack continued working until the time of his death with Superior Financial Services. He cared deeply about the people he worked with and took great pride in the success of the company. His work gave him a sense of purpose, but it was the people and relationships he formed along the way that made it especially meaningful to him.
If you knew Jack, you never had to wonder what he was thinking. He had no filter, an endless supply of one-liners, and a quick wit that kept those around him laughing. He was unapologetically himself, and those who knew and loved him wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.
Jack loved golf, and in his younger years he was a talented golfer, carrying a single-digit handicap for a time and recording multiple holes-in-one. And yes, they were verified! Golf was a favorite pastime and provided him with plenty of enjoyment—and no doubt plenty of stories.
Jack was a lifelong lover of animals, especially dogs. He had a soft spot for them and believed in caring for those who couldn’t care for themselves. In keeping with his wishes, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Johnson City Animal Shelter in his memory or to the Shriner Children’s Hospital in memory of Clinton and Leota Fox.
The last few years of Jack’s life were made especially happy by Sally, a very special lady who brought him love, companionship, and joy. Their time together meant a great deal to him, and his family is grateful for the happiness she brought into his life.
Jack is survived by his three children, Lisa Smith (Roderick), Michael Fox, and Debbie Minnick (Jimmy); and his two grandsons, AJ and Austin Minnick, who brought him great pride and joy.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Chuck, Tammie, Joe, and Jessica. Their friendship, kindness, and willingness to help Jack in so many ways meant more than words can express. They were instrumental in allowing Jack to live his final years where he wanted and, most importantly, how he wanted. Their care gave his family tremendous peace of mind, knowing that people who truly cared about him were close by. We will always be grateful for the love, time, and friendship they gave him.
Jack will be deeply missed by his family, friends, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His stories, his humor, his honesty, and his unmistakable way of being himself will live on in the memories of those who loved him.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 15, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Funeral Home in Johnson City, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
