Cook, Frankie Holt
Frankie Holt Cook was born in Radford, Virginia on August 22, 1932, and passed away on June 25, 2026. She married her high school sweetheart, Dick Cook, on August 25, 1951. An avid golfer and a stranger to no one, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a devoted caregiver, she lived more than ninety years, and every one of us is better for it.
Frankie was someone who always made things happen, often in the background and never seeking the spotlight; the one exception was her birthday, celebrated each year at the country club member-member, surrounded by friends, family, and a live band. Every holiday and family gathering felt magical because of the work she poured into it for those she loved. No family birthday passed without a card to mark the day, no matter where in the world that person happened to be. Without her quiet work behind the scenes, so many of these traditions and celebrations would have faded away. She was a dedicated, devoted, faithful, and loving wife and the matriarch of the family.
If you ever lost your smile, Frankie made sure you found it again; a peaceful, empowering presence for anyone, no matter who or how many. She had a way of carrying off the sorrow, the hunger, the grief, and the pain, and bringing peace to the valley again and again. Praise God. What a difference she made in our lives. An earthly gift, now a heavenly host: that was the Frankie way.
Frankie did more than just raise her family; she gave them the foundation to become the people they are today. In the love she and Dick showed every day, she taught compassion, generosity, resilience, and genuine kindness. Whatever good her family leaves in this world begins with the love she gave first.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Perry Holt and Agnes Lovern Holt; her sister, Doris Huffman; her brother, Jack Holt; and her daughters, Elizabeth Cook Baker and Leigh Cook Lacy. She is survived by her husband, Dick Arden Cook; her daughters, Nancy Cook Alcorn and husband Randy Alcorn, Sally Cook Snider and husband Willy Snider, and Melissa Jenelle Bandy, and her grandchildren, Lee Alcorn and partner Jared Mugfor, Paul Alcorn and wife Melissa Nelson, Russell Whitehurst and wife Sharodlee Whitehurst, Richard Whitehurst, Danielle Hillenbrand and husband Brent Hillenbrand, Micajah Lacy, Page Snider, Zack Snider, Frankie Sue Snider, Marshal Snider, Cassidy Bandy, and Devin Cranwell.
There will be no public service. The family will gather for a private celebration of life to remember this remarkable woman.
Dick Cook wishes to extend special thanks to granddaughter and caregiver Page Snider; daughters Nancy Cook Alcorn and Melissa Jenelle Bandy; Dr. Rani Rosborough; and Warm Hearth Hospice, with particular gratitude to Nurse Christina
