Blacksburg Quilter Wins 2 Awards

Ella Howe of Blacksburg, VA received two awards at the 45th Annual Quilt Show & Competition, hosted by the Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee (SMQ) June 19-20 at the Knoxville Expo Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The highly competitive event featured about 200 stunning quilts from 15 states and more than $7,800 in awards.
Howe was awarded first place for her quilt called “Mermaid Vibes” and third place for “Denim on Sunshine”. Both quilts were entered in the Junior category.
The Smoky Mountain Quilters of Tennessee strives to advance the knowledge and appreciation of the craftsmanship, artistic expression, and historical significance of quiltmaking; sponsors and supports charitable projects to provide encouragement to those in need; and promotes friendship through shared activities. The guild’s approximately 100 members range from novice to master quilters in diverse quilt styles, including traditional and art quilts, complex and minimalist modern designs, miniatures and bed-sized, and hand- or machine-stitched.
