Cumbee, Mitzi Raines

Mitzi Raines Cumbee, 63, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, at Lewis-Gale Hospital Montgomery, with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cumbee; her parents, Ronald “Joe” Raines and Judy Raines; her grandparents, Moffet and Sue Raines, and Eria and Lillie Smith; and most recently, her companion, Darrill Radford.

Born on September 9, 1962, Mitzi grew up and spent her life on the family farm in Craig County. She was a 1980 graduate of New Castle High School (now Craig County High School). Mitzi was a loyal and dedicated employee of Moog, where she worked as a lab technician for 45 years.

A devoted animal lover, she cared for, nursed, and loved many animals over the years. She never turned away a stray and adopted many animals, always making sure each one was well fed, cared for, and given a safe and loving home—often putting their needs before her own.

She is survived by her brother, Michael Raines and his wife, Michelle; her niece, Cassidy; and her great-nephew, Briar, all of whom share the family farm. Her absence there will be deeply felt.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at McCoy Funeral Home.
