Simms III, Reeves

Simms III, Reeves 2Reeves Simms III, age 74 of Floyd, VA passed away on May 18, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reeves Simms Jr and Donna Simms, as well as his sister Susan DeGraw and brother-in-law Alan.

Reeves was born on May 19, 1951 in Grand Rapids Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Reeves lived for many years in NYC, where he relished the culture, music and life of the city. He worked as an investigator for Amtrak and later opened his own private investigation firm. When he met his longtime partner Melodie Pogue, the two segued into professional innkeeping and spent many years operating lovely inns around Virginia and Connecticut.. They were married in 2005 in Arizona. Reeves was a charming and generous husband, brother, friend and uncle, and could converse on any topic with a mixture of surprisingly broad knowledge and entertaining bulls**it. He was a history buff, with a special interest in the American Civil War, even researching his own ancestors who had fought in the conflict. He proudly chaired and served on many Sesquecentennial committees, planning and executing events celebrating the 150 anniversary of the Civil War.

He deeply loved animals and was fortunate to have many dear feline and canine companions in his life. In his later years, he enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading and volunteered at the Floyd County Historical Society when not relaxing at home with the menagerie. Reeves is survived by his wife Melodie; his cats Raquel, Denver, Dallas, Shiloh and Margo; his goats Starsky and Casper; his dog Pink; and niece Bethany (Brad) Rogers and nephew Matthew (Janelle) DeGraw.

It was his wish not to have a formal memorial service, however, Melodie would encourage small one-on-one conversations or visits to celebrate his memory.
