Bike to Work Week Kickoff: May 19

May is Bike Month, and to celebrate, the Town of Blacksburg is teaming up with Ride Solutions to host a Bike to Work Day Event on Tuesday, May 19 to kick off the Bike to Work Week Challenge. This event will be held downtown at the tents on Draper Road from 7:30AM – 9AM. Complimentary coffee, snacks, and bike-themed prizes will be offered to anyone who shows up on a bike. Bike commuters will also be invited to share their routes on a large-format map as well as their experiences as bike commuters with staff from the VT Office of Sustainable Transportation and Town of Blacksburg staff. Feedback gathered from participants will help identify areas where improved bicycle infrastructure on campus and around town could make commuting by bike safer and more comfortable for riders.
The Bike to Work Week challenge is simple and accessible to anyone who can ride a bike for some part of their commute – everyone who logs at least one bike trip to or from work on the ConnectingVA app during the week-long challenge will be entered to win a $50 gift card!
You can sign up for free through the ConnectingVA app to log trips. More about the challenge and links to the app can be found here: https://ridesolutions.org/bikemonth/. This website also includes some tips to make the bike commute easier!
The Bike Month fun continues around the New River Valley with other events for everyone. Links to those events can be found on the Challenge website.
Mark your calendars now! The challenge starts on Bike to Work Day, Tuesday, May 19. Be sure to log your trips by Wednesday, May 27, for a chance to win prizes.
