Smith, Hazel Morris
Hazel Carlene Smith, 91, of Blacksburg, Virginia, was carried gently home by leagues of angels to her savior, Jesus Christ, on February 12, 2026. Hazel worked at Days Inn, Christiansburg until her retirement, where she was recognized for the quality of her work, kind spirit, and work ethic that colleagues and others admired.
Everywhere she went, she made fast friends, including with her neighbors of 17 years at Warm Hearth Trolinger House, and later at the Kroontje Center.
Devout in her faith, Hazel attended Gateway Baptist for many years and diligently studied her Bible and God’s word. She was everything a Christian should be; faithful without judgment, unceasingly kind, cheerful, a spirit of gratitude, and she showed love for everyone. If you were blessed enough to know Hazel, you know that she radiated with the presence of God.
Hazel joins her beloved parents, Ira and Averal Morris and many other family members in Heaven. Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory include special great-nephew and caregiver, Clay McCoy (Christiansburg), Clyde Cornett, cousins Haven and Patricia “Suzie” Cole (Christiansburg), cousin Doyle Vaught (Linda) of Christiansburg, nephew Tim McCoy (Brenda) of Pulaski, and great-nephew Tim McCoy (Cindy) of McCoy. She was also surrounded by many close friends who became “adopted family members” including Patty Kenney, Remona Vaught, Carlon Light, Kathleen Hammond, Cindy Wiley-Lamb, Karen Nelson, Ruthie Bellman, and many other beautiful souls whose lives she touched.
The family would like to thank the staff at Warm Hearth Trolinger House, the exceptional nursing and CNA team at Kroontje Center, and Good Samaritan Hospice for the wonderful, gentle, and loving care Hazel received.
Services will be held at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, on Friday, February 20, 2026, with Pastor Mitch Perry officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 AM for visitation, with the funeral starting at 11 AM in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
1 Chronicles 16:34: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever”.
