Pennington, Arnold Adair
Arnold Adair Pennington was born in Hill Top, WV, on November 18, 1928, and died in Princeton, WV, on June 30, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents Obed Adair and Earsel Dunn Pennington, his wife Freda Keatley Pennington, his son Scott Arnold Pennington, and his siblings TJ Pennington, Avis Craft and Gayla Callis, a nephew Ronald Bennett, and a special niece Shirley Osborne. He was also preceded in death by a dear friend, Louise Houchens.
He is survived by nephews Alton Jones, Darrell Pennington, Barry Callis, and a neice Mary Stephens. He is survived by several younger generations of the Pennington family, the Keatley family, and local friends from around the Peterstown area.
He received his education in the public schools of Peterstown, WV and graduated from high school in 1946. After high school he served for 3 years in the Army and Air Force, which offered him an opportunity to travel to many parts of the US including Connecticut, California, Hawaii and Texas. He also served in other parts of the world such as Panama and Guam. After being discharged, he returned to the Peterstown area and gained employment at the Celanese Corporation, where he advanced to a supervisory position in the boiler house. He retired in 1984.
During his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, traveling in his camper, and visiting with family. Arnold’s calm, pleasant manner made it easy for him to make friends, and his incredible mind for remembering details, made him a great story teller. He was admired and loved by many and will be greatly missed by those who were closest to him.
A graveside celebration of Arnold’s life will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, July 3, 2025 in the Peterstown Cemetery. All are invited to gather after the memorial at his last home at 157 Ballard Avenue, Peterstown for light food and drinks.
