Coleman, James Lyle
James Lyle Coleman, 80, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away at home surrounded by family on November 8, 2024. James was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Audie (Taylor) Coleman.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sandra (Carlson) Coleman; loving daughters Amy Kowalski (Timothy) and Jodi Coleman; grandsons (his pride and joy) Grant and Mason Kowalski; sister Mary Scarborough; brothers Charles Coleman (Barbara), Steve Coleman, and Mark Coleman (Elaine); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.
James was born August 25, 1944 in Sabine, West Virginia and moved to Dublin, Virginia at the age of three where he lived and attended school. He moved to Michigan, met the love of his life at Western Electric, and ended up staying there for 40 years. They raised their daughters in Trenton, Michigan where James was part owner of Reel Hunting Outlet. After retirement from AT&T, James and Sandra moved to Virginia in 2006 to be close to his mother and brothers.
First and foremost, James was a man of faith, loved the Lord and used every opportunity to share his belief with anyone who would listen. He was an active participant in the church and it’s various ministries and he loved to sing in the choir. Family was also very important to him, and if he wasn’t talking about Heaven, he was talking about his grandsons, who he was so proud of. Through the years, James also enjoyed hobbies such as fishing, hunting, archery, gardening and reading (especially his Bible).
