NRCC to host photographer Charlie Whitescarver
The work of photographer Charlie Whitescarver will be on display at NRCC’s Fletcher Gallery on campus in Dublin in Godbey Hall 145 until December 13. The show, “Show Your Work or It Does Not Count,” will display Whitescarver’s photography work.
A meet-the-artist event will also take place on Tuesday, November 12 from 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. in the gallery.
Whitescarver grew up in Roanoke but spent his adult life in the New River Valley. He learned photography as a hobby while serving in the United States Army in Germany. He taught photography at Camp Easter Seal when he left the Army in 1976; shortly after that he became the manager of the Ewald-Clark Camera store in Blacksburg. In 1979, he was a founding partner of PFS Photofinishing in Radford. Whitescarver was a contributing writer and photographer to Shutterbug Magazine and was a contributing writer and photographer for the Roanoke Times, Radford News Journal, and News Messenger.
His office is in the Montgomery Museum of Art and History where he also serves as a docent. As a commercial photographer, he has worked with businesses large and small photographing events, products, and people. In the Fletcher Gallery, he hopes to show the variety of ways to showcase photographs to enhance the spaces in which you spend time.
