Wrenn, Virginia Smith
Virginia “Ginny” Wrenn, 104, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024. She was born on September 10, 1919, in Radford, Va., to Lorne and Pearl Smith.
She grew up in west Radford where her father worked for the Lynchburg foundry. Ginny attended Kuhn Barnett Elementary and Radford High School where she graduated in 1937. She was probably the last remaining member of that class.
Ginny went to work for Burlington Mills in Radford where she met her husband, Bob. They were married in 1939 and shortly thereafter Bob’s employer moved them to Fayetteville, N.C. Their two children were born there. They lived in Fayetteville during WWII and returned to Radford in 1950. Ginny worked at several places in Radford. In the early 60’s she went to work for Poly Scientific (now Moog) in Blacksburg and stayed there until Bob’s poor health forced her to retire in 1981.
Ginny has been a member of Central Methodist Church in Radford for most of her adult life and was likely their oldest living member. While active, she held a number of administrative positions in the church. She was a member of the Radford Garden Club, AARP, and other senior citizen organizations.
She had a number of hobbies which included knitting, doll making, etching, basket weaving, cooking and organizing family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Jones, Rev. and Mrs. C. Walter Martin, and infant sister, Ruth; her husband who passed in 1982, Robert W. “Bob” Wrenn; son-in-law, W.P. “Bill” Brewer; and her daughter-in-law, Alice Price Wrenn.
Ginny is survived by her son, Robert E. “Buck” Wrenn; daughter, Jennie Brewer; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and 6 great great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
