Meisner, Rebecca Newlon 4Rebecca Newlon Meisner, 78, of Pearisburg, VA passed away on February 27, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rebecca was born in Washington D.C. on July 9, 1945 to John and Pauline Newlon. She was a graduate of Washington and Lee High School.

After graduation, Rebecca served over 20 years as an ACO for the Department of Defense. Upon retiring, she worked with her husband Olen Sharron, an arborist, and at his death Becky became the bookkeeper for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg, a position she proudly served in until her death.

Rebecca was a strong, independent woman of deep faith. In addition to working and worshiping at St. Mary’s, she shared her gift as a cellist by playing in the “Rise Up” band. She was also an elite level competitive bowler and enjoyed many outdoor sports and activities. Becky was never happier than when cruising on the ocean and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In 2014 Rebecca completed her family by marrying Wayne LeRoy Meisner.

She is predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, John Newlon, sister Eunice Walker and son Steve Sharron.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne, as well as her sisters Elaine “Pie” Perkinson (Baxter,) Maeve Crowgey (Terry,) Polly Newlon (Keith Carson.) She is also survived by her children: with William Harp (deceased); Kim Harp (John Spotke,) and Sean Harp (Stephenie,) Olen’s son, Dean Sharron (Kathy,) and Wayne’s children; Robert Meisner, Louise Black (Ron,) and Fran Meisner (Robert Todd.) Rebecca leaves thirteen grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends, including Bernie and Nancy Lucas, to cherish her memory.

A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Rd. No 3705, Blacksburg, VA. The service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blacksburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church (stmarysblacksburg.com)
