Potential High Water Levels on New River

Appalachian Power wants boaters and recreational users downstream of Claytor Dam to know water levels on the New River could rise rapidly starting Friday, Feb. 3, and continue throughout the weekend.

The National Weather Service is calling for extreme cold temperatures over the next few days, which could require us to increase power generation at Claytor Dam to maintain reliability of the regional electric grid.

If we are notified to increase power generation, we will have little time to alert the public about the potential of increased downstream flows. Please continue to check back for updates as they become available.
