9/9: 2025 Kentland Farm Field Day
On Tuesday, September 9th, Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Virginia Tech College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will host the 2025 Kentland Farm Field Day. This event will highlight current research projects at Kentland Farm as well as focus on livestock, forages, and horticulture production. The schedule will be different than past years, starting at 2 pm and ending at 7 pm, with an optional campfire networking event afterwards. There will also be a pre-tour at 1 pm, being offered before the main event.
This year’s livestock track includes:
- Beef Cattle Nutrition –Join Dr. Rodrigo Marques, Virginia Tech
- Forage Establishment- Phil Blevins, VCE
- Grazing Height Management- Jon Vest, VCE
The horticulture track (presented by Dr. Tom Kuhar, Dr. Steven Rideout, Dr. Ashley Jernigan, and Dr. James Wilson) will include information on:
- Vegetable Production Practices
- Integrated Pest Management (Conventional and Organic)
- Vegetable Insect and Disease Research
- Beekeeping
Kentland exists to support the research, teaching, and Extension programs of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which include many of Virginia’s major agricultural crops and livestock species. Programs are conducted at the farm by many different colleges and departments of the university, including Engineering, Science, Veterinary Science, and Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. The farm is rich in local history, and Virginia Tech has maintained that history through the manor house, enslaved people’s cemetery, Native American sites, and other early farm buildings.
Registration: $20 – includes dinner
Come visit Virginia Tech’s Kentland Research Farm and see the latest agricultural research and practices. Hear from University, Extension, and Industry professionals in horticulture, pest management, small grains and field crops, livestock, forages, and the agricultural economy. The day will consist our tours, networking opportunities, dinner, ice cream, and more! Space is limited to 200 people.
