8/15: Touch-a-Truck NRV
The New River Valley Home Builders Association (NRVHBA) is thrilled to bring back the annual Touch-A-Truck NRV for its 11th year on Saturday, August 15th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Uptown Christiansburg (782 New River Road, back parking lot).
As the New River Valley continues to face a growing need for skilled trades professionals, Touch-A-Truck NRV gives children an early opportunity to meet the people behind the construction, emergency services, transportation, and public works industries that serve the NRV, all while raising funds for future workforce development initiatives and impact in local classrooms.
With over 80 vehicles in the largest year yet for this event, kids will have a safe environment to climb all over the equipment that is building and protecting the NRV. Kids can explore the trades through hands on build activities, digging zones, and more! Returning after several years, there will be a special helicopter landing demonstration by Carilion Lifeguard the morning of the event, pending any emergency calls. A sensory friendly experience with no horns and sirens will be available from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Families can enjoy a day of fun honking horns, blaring sirens, and climbing all over trucks, tractors, and equipment, thanks to our Big Rig Sponsor, Meridian Waste.
The best part? Kids are FREE! Adult tickets are just $5 each. Touch-A-Truck NRV is proud to partner with Setter Construction to launch a community food drive during this year’s event. Adults who bring three non-perishable food items on the event day will receive free admission. Proceeds from Touch-A-Truck NRV support the NRVHBA and the Building Futures Foundation, the charitable arm of the NRVHBA. Impact in the New River Vally consists of workforce development initiatives, including scholarships for students pursuing careers in the construction industry, and classroom grants that introduce local youth to the skilled trades.
