$3,211,403 in Grants to Ninth District Colleges
Thursday, September 24, 2026 – The U.S. Department of Education has awarded two grants through the Department’s Strengthening Institutions Program to help higher education institutions in Virginia’s Ninth District. These grants include:
- $1,977,991 to Ferrum College
- $1,233,412 to Wytheville Community College
In response to these grant notices, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Higher education opportunities support Ninth District students and families.
“These grants for more than $3.2 million help Ferrum College and Wytheville Community College deliver higher education access to our communities.”
BACKGROUND
According to its website, the Strengthening Institutions Program provides funds to improve and strengthen academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability.
