Whiting, Hyon Cha 2Hyon Cha Whiting, 75 of Pembroke, VA departed this life July 16, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous and valiant fight with Cancer. Born on July 12, 1946 in Kong Sei Ri, South Korea, she was a daughter of the late An Kwan Ju and Kim Yong He.

Lovingly referred to as “Cha Cha,” Hyon Cha was loved and respected by all who knew her. “Cha Cha” worked for a number of years at LBT, INC of Virginia Beach. However, it was in a move to Pembroke, VA that she felt like a dream had come true, secondary to the serenity of the mountains and the love and friendship she gained from her neighbors which were truly a gift from God. She was the most loving and caring wife, mother, and friend who always wanted everyone to be taken care of and be happy. She loved to garden, sew, and cook Korean feasts for family and friends. Hyon Cha was never known to have any enemies and you could always count on her sweet spirit to lighten the mood with her infectious laugh, sense of humor, and light-hearted nature. During her strongest fight, these past two and a half years, she was noted to look for recipes to aid her healing. Her dying wish is for all to stay healthy and to care for one another.

“Cha Cha” is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, An Chi Yong, and An Chi Song; and a daughter, Sue Lynn Whiting.

She leaves to cherish her memory in their hearts, her husband, Ronald Whiting to whom she was married on July 14, 1978 in Oneida, NY; a daughter, Erica Lynn Whiting (Stephen Holmes); brothers, An Chi Wong (Min Gyeong Ju), and An Chi Ho (Son Hyo Suk), sisters, In Cha Browne (Chris), and Suk Cha Bullock (Bruce); and numerous extended family and friends, including those in the “Kakao Group” and the “Mess Hall Ladies.”

In her honor there will be a funeral mass conducted at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Pearisburg, VA on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Father Patricio Alcantara officiating. The family will receive friends following mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to assist Homeless Veterans or your local Animal Shelter in “Cha Cha’s” memory. A guestbook is available to send family sweet remembrances of “Cha Cha” at kendallfuneralhome.com. The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to be serving the Whiting family.
