Whitebarrel Winery Receives Award
Whitebarrel Winery, located in Christiansburg, received a prestigious award in the Virginia Wineries Association Governor’s Cup® Virginia Wine Competition earlier this year. Selected from 442 entries of both white and red wines from 100 wineries across the state, Whitebarrel Winery earned recognition for its Fig Wine.
Based on their appearance, flavor, aroma, overall quality, and commercial suitability, seven world-class judges rated the wines on a 100-point “Wine Spectator” scale. Wines scoring 90 or above received a gold medal and are considered to be of “superior character and style.” The local winery’s Fig Wine is considered rare for its use of estate-grown honey and figs, which creates a deep flavor, unique color, and a soft, decadent finish. It was the only fruit wine to win an award in the competition this year.
The gold medalists were recognized at the Virginia Governor’s Cup Gala on Tuesday, Feb., 27. Whitebarrel’s award-winning Fig Wine is available for purchase at their Blacksburg and Christiansburg locations, in select wine retailers throughout Virginia and Washington, D.C., and online at www.whitebarrel.com/buy-wine/.
